Let the picture of the dinner table come back before you choose—there’s no hurry.
At the table, little things showed how you had been raised. Early on, you learned to lay the knife to the right of the plate—and to turn the blade just so, the way the grown-ups did. It was a matter of courtesy: the blade should point at no one. Which way did the sharp edge of the knife face?
